General Project Information
The proposed project will improve NW Bethany Boulevard between NW Bronson Road and
West Union Road. The goal is to improve safety for all modes (vehicles, cyclists,
and pedestrians) while reducing traffic congestion from the NW Bronson intersection
north to the West Union Road intersection. The project is the first in a group of
projects to be built and funded through the County's general fund, a continuation
of the previous Major Streets and Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP).
Existing NW Bethany Blvd is a two/three lane roadway providing north-south access
between the rapidly growing residential areas north of US Highway 26 and mixed office/commercial
areas south of Highway 26 and areas beyond. The current roadway lacks bike lanes,
has intermittent sections of sidewalk, sporadic curb and gutters, and utilizes open
and dangerous roadside ditches for drainage.
The board of county commissioners approved constructing a 4 lane facility with 5
lanes provided at intersections requiring left turn lanes. Other improvements include
continuous on-street bike lanes, sidewalks on both sides of the road, upgraded storm
drainage and water quality systems, illumination and limited landscaping. New traffic
signals will be installed at Bronson and Oak Hills as part of the project.
